US: We Are Ready To Participate In EU-Iran Talks
The United States is ready to take part in talks with Iran and other P5+1 participants (Russia, Britain, China, France and Germany) on Iran’s nuclear programme at the invitation of the European Union, the US State Department’s spokesman Ned Price said.
« The United States would accept an invitation from EU High Representative to participate in a meeting between the P5+1 format participants and Iran to discuss a diplomatic way to resolve the Iranian nuclear programme issue, » Mr. Price told.
The US has also withdrawn its demand from the UN Security Council to reinstate the world body’s sanctions against Iran. A letter to this effect was sent by Richard Mills, the Deputy Permanent Representative of the United States to the United Nations, Reuters reports.
Earlier, Iran said it could block IAEA inspectors’ access to its nuclear facilities from 21 February if the parties to the nuclear deal fail to meet their obligations by that time. In 2015, Iran signed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) with the five permanent members of the UN Security Council and Germany. The agreement implied restrictions on Iran’s nuclear programme and temporary restrictions on arms sales and purchases in return for the removal of all international sanctions against the country.
