UK Government Tightens Laws On Migrants

A new bill to address illegal immigration was introduced in the House of Commons on March 7 by UK Home Secretary Suella Braverman.

The bill, among other things, imposes an « obligation » on the Home Secretary to expel people who enter the kingdom illegally. Such migrants would need to be detained right away and deported to their native country or, if it can be proved that it would be dangerous for them to return, to another, « safe » country.

The bill also effectively prevents irregular migrants from requesting asylum in the UK because they can only do so after they have been expatriated.

Only those who could be « irreparably harmed » by such removal, including minors, the sick, and those who would be immediately detained, will be exempted.
