Turkey: We Will Not Refuse Geological Exploration in the Mediterranean
Ankara will continue disputed with Greece geological exploration in the Eastern Mediterranean region, despite the departure of the Turkish research vessel Oruç Reis, Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said.
Earlier on Sunday, TRT reported that Oruç Reis and its accompanying vessels Ataman and Cingizhan, which had expired on a Navtex notice, had anchored near Antalya, Turkey.
« All transfers of Oruç Reis are going according to plan. This is not about giving up our legal rights, » Anadolu quoted Akar as saying.
In August, there was another aggravation of Turkish-Greek relations. Turkey said its vessel Oruç Reis has begun seismic surveys in the Eastern Mediterranean, an area that Greece considers to be its exclusive economic zone. Shortly after the release of the Navtex seismic notice, the Greek National Security Council was convened. The Greek armed forces were put on high alert.
