Trump accuses Macron of meddling in US politics
No one « has the right to speak on behalf of the United States » on the issue of building relations with Tehran, American President warned.
US President Donald Trump accused French leader Emmanuel Macron of meddling in Washington’s policy toward Iran, wrote Head of the American administration on Twitter on Thursday, August 8.
Trump also expressed the view that Iran « is in serious financial difficulty. » According to him, Tehran is ready for a dialogue with Washington, « however, it is receiving conflicting signals from all those who unreasonably represent us, including French President Macron. »
The French leader is in constant contact with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and, as AFP reports, made it clear that he is ready to play the role of mediator for establishing cooperation between Washington and Tehran.
In early July, the United States announced its readiness to create a military coalition to protect commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. Head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the US Armed Forces, General Joseph Dunford, then said that Washington is negotiating with a number of countries about joining the coalition.
Formation of an international coalition to protect merchant shipping followed a series of incidents that occurred in the Strait of Hormuz. Over the past few months, a series of attacks on oil tankers have been carried out in the strait connecting the Persian and Oman gulfs. The USA is accusing Iran of what happened; Tehran is denying its guilt.
