Over 15,500 Europeans Contract Monkeypox

More than 15.5 thousand cases of monkeypox have been documented In Europe, reports The European Center for Disease Prevention and Control. Its data indicates that two persons have passed away.

« By 10:00 a.m. on August 2, 2022, data on 15,624 cases from 32 countries and regions were sent to ECDC and the WHO Regional Office for Europe via the European Surveillance System (TESSy). 15,524 of the 15,624 cases reported to TESSy had laboratory confirmation, two deaths have been reported, » according to the organization’s newsletter. The center explains on Twitter that it is referring to the continent of Europe.

The vast majority of those infected are men (99.1%). 41% of those infected are between the ages of 31 and 40.

On July 23, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared an outbreak of monkeypox a public health emergency.
