Net Inflow Of Migrants Into Britain In 2022 Reaches Record 606,000 People

According to the National Bureau of Statistics, 1.2 million immigrants have arrived in the UK by the end of 2022. 557 000 people departed the country afterwards. So, by the end of the year, there had been a net inflow of 606,000 migrants, which set a new record for the nation.

As stated in the press release, 925,000 of those who entered the nation are not residents of the EU. Only 151,000 EU citizens visited the country to work or study, and only 88,000 Britons included in these statistics were coming back home.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak promised to dramatically restrict the country’s influx of migrants, whose high number irritates locals. According to Reuters, this was another key factor in people’s decisions to support Britain’s exit from the EU in 2016.

Eventually, however, Brexit itself ultimately led to a bigger migration of foreigners. The significant outflow of EU citizens from the UK has left the British economy short of labor, and when the COVID-19-related lockdowns finished, migrants from other regions rushed into the country.
