NATO And EU To Sign Declaration Of Cooperation
The third joint declaration on collaboration will be signed on Tuesday in Brussels by the heads of the European Council Charles Michel and the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.
According to media reports, the parties will state their intentions to strengthen cooperation, recognizing NATO as « the basis of the collective defense and security of the allies » and the crucial role of bolstering European defense as an addition to the common security of all the alliance’s member states.
Originally scheduled for 2021, the signing of a joint declaration between the EU and NATO was delayed for an unspecified reason.
Following the endorsement of the European defense strategy, the Strategic Compass, and the adoption of the alliance’s new strategic concept at the Madrid summit in June 2022, the EU stated it expected progress in negotiations between the union and NATO on a new joint declaration on cooperation.
