Macron Fears Flow Of Refugees From Afghanistan To Europe

French President Emmanuel Macron noted the danger of unregulated migration flows from Afghanistan to the EU amid the Afghan crisis. German Chancellor Angela Merkel called the situation in Afghanistan « bitter, dramatic and terrifying ».

« Destabilization in Afghanistan threatens to bring unregulated migration flows into Europe, » Mr. Macron said in a televised address to the nation. « We must secure us in advance. According to the French president, the EU will take the initiative against the uncontrolled flow of refugees.

« Since the withdrawal of foreign troops from Afghanistan, we have seen the Taliban occupy province after province, city after city and take back control of the entire country with unimaginable speed. This is an extremely bitter development. A bitter, dramatic and terrifying development in particular for the people in Afghanistan, » Merkel said.

The German chancellor said the crisis in Afghanistan was bitter for Germany and its allies, who, led by the United States and NATO, had fought against terrorism in that country for 20 years after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

On August 15, the Taliban seized Kabul without an assault and offered a peaceful transition of power. Former Afghan President Ashraf Ghani resigned and fled. The UN Security Council (UNSC) called for an immediate end to violence in the country and the establishment of a new unified government.
