Italian Parliament Approves Agreement To Open Migrant Centers In Albania

According to EFE, the Italian Parliament’s Senate has approved a plan to establish two centers in Albania to handle immigrants who want to travel to Italy.

A total of 93 senators voted in favor of the accord, 61 against it, and 1 did not vote. The deal was approved in January by the lower chamber of the Italian parliament.

The agreement was also accepted by the Constitutional Court of Albania for a five-year term, with the option to extend it for an additional year.

The plan was unveiled in November of last year by Prime Ministers Edi Rama of Albania and Giorgia Meloni of Italy. Up to 36,000 refugees are expected to enter Albania annually while their bids for asylum are being handled by Italy.
