Hungary Sets To Negotiate With EC On Access To Funding

By the end of 2022, according to the Hungarian Minister of Regional Development Tibor Navracsics, Hungary intends to sign an agreement with the European Commission that will grant Budapest access to EU money designated for operational programs and COVID-19 pandemic recovery.

Judit Varga, the country’s minister of justice, stated earlier that the Hungarian government had written the European Commission in response to the procedure that had been started to examine the country’s fiscal conditions. Budapest has also created a draft of policies to address every issue preventing Hungary from receiving EU financing.

In order to ensure access funds from the EU Recovery Fund, the Hungarian government announced that it will submit a bill to parliament by September 30 that would establish an anti-corruption body and a new anti-corruption group with participation from both the government and non-government organizations.

« We will continue to negotiate (with the European Commission), commitments will start, giving us a pretty good chance to stick to the original schedule, » Navracsics said on Kossuth Radio. « By the end of the year, we will be able to sign an agreement with the European Commission that will back the request for EU funds. »
