Germany’s RWE To Restart Three Lignite Plants
According to the company’s spokesperson quoted by Reuters, the German energy firm RWE is getting ready to restart three lignite-fired power reactors, Neurath C and Niederaussem E and F, to ensure adequate capacity throughout the winter.
RWE anticipates the units might be restarted as early as October, but the government has not yet formally agreed to the arrangements, the company noted.
The agency also reports that these plants were chosen back in May to begin operating alongside idle or to be shut down lignite, hard coal, and oil-burning facilities run by RWE and other utility companies in the event of gas supply disruptions, which did occur after the start of the active phase of conflict in Ukraine.
