Germany To Tighten Control Over The Internet
On Wednesday, the German government is expected to approve a new package of measures providing for stricter control and responsibility for publishing calls to extremist actions and threats against politicians on social networks, German media reported.
« In the future, those who threaten or spread hatred on the Internet will be prosecuted more severely and more effectively, » said German Minister of Justice Christine Lambrecht in a statement posted on the agency’s website.
One of the main measures in the bill is the pressure on Facebook and Twitter to quickly remove malicious content. It is noted that this step is dictated by the growing danger from German ultra-right extremist groups that use the Internet for illegal purposes.
Recently, 12 people were arrested in Germany for planning attacks on mosques. Organization of attacks was carried out, inter alia, through various instant messengers.
