German Doctors’ Union Announces Second Wave of Local Coronavirus Epidemic
Head of the German doctors’ association Marburger Bund, Susanne Johna, believes that the second wave of the novel coronavirus pandemic in Germany has already begun, writes Augsburger Allgemeine on Tuesday.
“We are already in the second wave of slow growth (of the number of cases),” said Johna.
Strict hygiene practices need to be maintained until a cure for the disease is found, she said.
“We all dream of returning to normal life. But we are in a situation that is not normal,” she said.
Earlier, the Prime Minister of the federal state of Saxony Michael Kretschmer has already said that the second wave of the coronavirus has begun in Germany. However, in general, politicians in Germany speak out on this topic with caution.
According to the Robert Koch Institute in Germany, 211,281 cases of coronavirus infection were registered, 9,156 people died. Most of all infected were in the western lands: Bavaria, North Rhine-Westphalia, Baden-Württemberg. Over the week, the total number of reported infections increased by 4,641.
The Marburger Bund has 127,000 medical workers and is considered Europe’s largest voluntary medical organization. The organization exists since 1947.
