German Bundeswehr Short Of €20B Worth Of Ammunition
Eva Högl, the defense commissioner for the Bundestag, claimed that the German army lacks ammunition worth €20 billion. She also notes that there are 20,000 openings in the Bundeswehr.
In an interview with Bild am Sonntag, Eva Högl stated that the Bundeswehr is lacking ammunition worth €20 billion.
She claims that the nation lacks military munitions and munitions storage facilities. According to Ms. Högl, the military personnel stationed in Lithuania last winter lacked comfortable, waterproof clothes for extremely cold weather.
« The issue needs to be resolved as quickly as feasible. The troops need to have a complete set of equipment. This reveals whether the situation in the Bundeswehr is actually getting better, » she added.
Eva Högl added that there are now 20,000 openings in the Bundeswehr. Although 182 thousand people are reportedly on duty, up to 60% of staff in some military units are actually in use. She cited military personnel’s vacations, sick days, and internships as the cause of this.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced in February that the government would set up a special fund and send €100 billion to arm the Bundeswehr. Markus Söder, the premier of Bavaria, said that the government never transferred these cash to the fund in September. The German Defense Ministry announced in August that it was running low on weaponry as a result of shipments to Ukraine.
