France, Germany, UK Accuse Iran Of Attacking Saudi Aramco Targets
The joint statement of the three countries is published on the Bundestag website.
It indicates, in particular, that leaders of three countries: Emmanuel Macron, Angela Merkel and Boris Johnson, are certain about involvement of Tehran in the drone attack on the oil infrastructure in Saudi Arabia.
« It is clear to us that Iran is responsible for this attack. There is no other plausible explanation. We support ongoing investigations to establish further details, » the statement reads. The three leaders, who also called on the leadership of the Islamic Republic to avoid provocations and do controversial issues bet on dialogue.
Macron, Merkel and Johnson pointed out that attacks, although directed against Saudi Arabia, affected all states and increased the risk of a major conflict.
The leaders of the three countries called on Tehran to return to fulfilling its obligations under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) for the Iranian nuclear program.
On September 14, drone strikes hit facilities of the state-run oil company Saudi Aramco, which led to a 5.7 million reduction in daily oil production in Saudi Arabia. This is 50% of oil production in the kingdom and more than 5% of world daily production.
The Hussites claimed responsibility for the attack. However, the United States almost immediately announced involvement in the attack of Tehran. US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo said Iran launched an « unprecedented attack on global energy supply. »
The Arab coalition fighting in Yemen, led by Saudi Arabia, said the attack on the kingdom’s oil infrastructure was carried out using Iranian weapons, but not from Yemen.
