EU3 Warns Of Risk Of JCPOA Turning Into Empty Promise

According to representatives of the EU Three on Iran (France, Britain, and Germany), time is running out to reestablish the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA, also known as the « Iran nuclear deal »), and all the agreements could become empty promises in the future. According to them, no serious talks on reviving the agreement have ever begun.

« We have not been able to reach genuine agreements yet, » the Three said in a statement to Reuters. Diplomats warned that « time is running out » and that « given Iran’s drive to advance its nuclear program, the JCPOA would soon become an empty promise » unless actions are made on this problem.

Negotiations to bring Tehran and Washington back to the Iran nuclear deal resumed in Vienna on November 29 after a break of almost six months. Moscow and Tehran support restoring the deal to its original form. In December, White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said the US would take measures to limit Iran’s sources of revenue if talks do not bear fruit in the near future.
