EU to Create New Military Space Agency
The European Union will create a new military space structure to help consolidate, develop and deploy the armed forces. This was announced on Tuesday by the appointed chairman of the new European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen, who will begin her duties on November 1.
« The EU will never be a military union <..> but the EU countries have been repeatedly told that the general logistical support for their armed forces is extremely important, » Reuters quoted the future Head of the EC as saying. She added that NATO will always remain a collective security system for the EU.
According to the agency, Sylvie Goulard, a French citizen, will be responsible for the formation of the new structure. According to Ms. von der Leyen’s plans, Ms. Goulard is a Commissioner-designate for Internal Market.
