EU Sends First Batch Of Medical Aid To China To Curb Coronavirus
After receiving a request from China for protective equipment from the coronavirus, the EU emergency response focal point turned to all member states for assistance in delivering the necessary personal protective equipment to the Chinese side, said European Emergency Response Coordinator Janez Lenarčič on Saturday.
“As an immediate first reaction, Member States allocated a total of 12 tons of protective equipment already on their way to China,” the communiqué circulated in Brussels said.
Lenarčič confirmed the promise of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to the Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, Li Keqiang, made in a telephone conversation last week, to provide any necessary assistance to China in its efforts to curb the spread of coronavirus.
“The Commission will continue to support China,” the European Commissioner assured.
