EU Praises Iraq For Cancelling All Flights To Belarus
The European Union hopes that the cancellation of all passenger flights from Iraq to Belarus will help stabilize the situation with the influx of migrants in Lithuania, said a representative of the European Commission (EC), as quoted by Reuters.
« We are pleased with the constructive approach of our Iraqi partners, » he told, praising Baghdad’s response to the events in the countries neighboring Belarus.
On August 10th the Minister of Internal Affairs of Latvia Marija Golubeva urged the government to introduce the state of emergency on the Belarusian-Latvian border in connection with the inflow of illegal migrants. The Border Service of Lithuania reported about catching a record number of illegal migrants – 289 illegal immigrants have been detained in early August. Most of them introduced themselves as Iraqi citizens.
Baghdad has decided to suspend all passenger flights to Belarus since August 7.
