EC Tender Offers For Gas Purchases Almost Triple Demand

Foreign providers have reportedly offered around 100 billion cubic meters of gas to European consumers in the first mid-term tender conducted under the EU Energy Platform, according to the European Commission.

“We are strengthening Europe’s energy security via coordination and cooperation in a challenging geopolitical environment. The offers surpass the whole demand by over three times,” according to EC Executive Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič.

The AggregateEU procurement mechanism, he claimed, « has become a dynamic market for buyers and reliable international gas suppliers » and that this demonstrates how it « supports the competitiveness of our industry and stable prices for our consumers. »

According to the EC communiqué, proposals for gas totaling 97.4 billion cubic meters were received for the tender, which ended the night before.

Concurrently, the European Commission this week gathered bids for 34 billion cubic meters of gas from 19 European consumer corporations via the AggregateEU mechanism.
