Catalonia Sets to Create Separate Space Agency
The Catalan government’s website states that the authorities of the Autonomous Community of Catalonia are preparing to set up a space agency independent from Spain.
The new framework will work to prepare two nanosatellites for launch into orbit in the first half of 2021. In total, by 2023, six spacecraft will be launched into space. € 18 million is expected to be spent on this.
The message states that the project seeks to turn Catalonia into a digital state that « not only utilizes, but also produces digital technology. »
« Our aim is to transform Catalonia into a digital state, not only as a customer, but also as a digital technology producer, » noted Head of the Department of Digital Strategy Jordi Puigneró. The launch of nanosatellites, according to him, is aimed at strengthening connectivity and will also help monitor the planet.
